ashtanga yoga center mission
One of our goals is to give the student, whether a beginner or advanced a home to practice Ashtanga. It is our intention to keep the teaching of Ashtanga as close to the way we have been taught as possible. As teachers we are all deeply appreciative of those who have taught before us and helped us in our journey. Yet as life would have it none of us come from one teacher alone and so as a group we reflect many traditions. The bond of a student and teacher is ancient. It is incumbent on the student to proceed with eyes open and take full responsibility for learning. It is incumbent for the teacher to always act responsibly and with the student's interest in mind. No matter what or from whom we learn, the real and only teacher is within. Bowing to what we know as well as what we don't know, NAMASTÉ.

about ashtanga
One of the many paths of Hatha yoga, Ashtanga is the system of Yoga taught by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois at the Ashtanga Yoga Research Institute in Mysore, India. This method of Yoga involves synchronizing the breath with progressive series of postures–a process producing intense internal heat and a profuse, purifying sweat that detoxifies muscles and organs. The result is improved circulation, a light and strong body, and a calm mind.
Pattabhi was the founder of Ashtanga yoga as we know it. He learned yoga from the renown teacher Krishnamacharya.
Pattabhi taught for over sixty years but the form of Ashtanga has only recently gained popularity. There are six different but linked series in this form. Each series begins with a standing sequence, floor work and finishing postures.
Sri Pattabhi Jois passed on in May 2009.
